I’m a Star Wars Nerd
Needless to say, when One Man Star Wars Trilogy was playing at the Diesel Playhouse this weekend, I had to go. Time to let my geek flag fly and it was well worth it. It was a crazy energetic joyful show and I loved every minute .
Now I want to make it clear that I am not a hard core Star Wars nerd. I don’t dress up in a Storm Trooper suit or go to conventions. I don’t secretly braid my hair and wear it like cinnamon buns on the side of my head like Princess Leia. But wowee, Empire Strikes Back captivated me back in the day. Han Solo was my first man crush after I graduated from the boy crushes of my girlhood. He was a lovable rogue, a dangerous scoundrel, irresistible in his tight black pants. He fulfilled all my prepubescent fantasies, whatever they were. I collected the bubblegum cards and would liquid paper Princess Leia’s face out of the ones where she was with Han.
I spent the summer of 1980 going to the theatre every week. I loved it when Yoda would make Luke use the force. I would practice my Chewbacca bellow and my Yoda voice. The final fight scene between Luke and Darth Vader was always riveting, especially when Darth chops off Luke’s hand and then decides to tell him he is his long lost father. Nice going Darth, like the prodigal son is really going to want to work things out when you just chopped of his appendage.
It was cinematic magic, and I loved the experience every time.
I felt the same about One Man Star Wars Trilogy. Super fun show, and I was happy to treat my nerdy self to a great night.
