For those of you who haven’t seen this treasure, get ready to weep. Here is Susan Boyle.

The Sweetie heard something about her this morning on CBC radio, “do you know anything about this Susan Boyle?” he asked.

“Does she have a brother named Lance?” I asked, and then went into fits of laughter, “get it? Lance Boyle?”

My immature outburst ended any further discussions of Susan Boyle until later in the day when a friend sent me an email ordering me to watch her on YouTube right away. I found the video, a clip of her on Britain’s Got Talent, and spent the next six minutes crying.

This unassuming woman with a golden voice managed to captivate and humble every doubting audience member and judge on the show. It was inspiring and sad. Wonderful to see everyone fall in love with her, and sad to realize that everyone had been ready to dismiss her because she wasn’t in a pretty pop package. As my friend said, “the obsession with looks blinds us to true beauty.”

Thank goodness for feisty talented spitfires like Susan Boyle. I’m sorry I made fun of her brother Lance.
