Twelve Good Things About Autumn

I am not a fan of autumn. If spring were to follow fall I would be a fan but it instead it is followed by cold dark miserable hellish winter, so for me, autumn is always the harbinger of doom. I know I should be more positive and just live in the moment and not be crabby months ahead of time, but not everyone can be cheery. People like me make the cheery people seem even more radiant, so I am offering up a positive service in my own way.

Nonetheless, I am trying to adopt a semi-positive outlook. In honour of the second day of autumn, here is my list of twelve good things about the season:

  1. Pumpkin pie. I’m going to eat lots of it, perhaps even try to make a pumpkin pie from scratch.
  2. Root vegetables and squash. I like their rich hearty heaviness. I’m going to eat lots of them too.
  3. A new season of Survivor has begun and it looks like this season’s evil villain is extra diabolical, bordering on a sociopath. Goodie!
  4. The One of a Kind Craft Show will be in Toronto at the end of November. Love that craft show even though everything is super expensive. It is a fun tradition to drool over all the loveliness and gobble up pounds of chocolate bark.
  5. Many of the people I love are fall babies.
  6. Doc Soup will be starting again so I’ll see a documentary every month.
  7. Just three more months and the days will start getting longer again.
  8. The leaves on the trees are pretty when they turn colour, I’ll admit that. And that crisp dried leaf smell is kind of nice too.
  9. I’m seeing The Swell Season at Massey Hall in November.
  10. Fall’s a good time for soup. I like soup.
  11. I can start a new knitting project and knit cozied up under a blanket.
  12. Just nine months until the first day of summer.

This is an excellent list, but I guess I’m partial to autumn. I’m glad you’re finding a way to enjoy the season even if it doesn’t always agree with you. Now I feel the need to pencil in pie and soup making!
